Dementia workshop provides continuing education for area social workers and case managers
Oasis Seniors Advisors East Tennessee will offer a free webinar September 21
JOHNSON CITY, TN (September 1, 2021) — Social workers and case managers in the region can earn one continuing education credit unit from an upcoming online workshop sponsored by Oasis Senior Advisors East Tennessee. The no-cost webinar, “Cognitive Impairment and Falls: Understanding How Dementia Contributes to Falls,” will be held September 21, from 2:00-3:15 p.m.
Oasis Senior Advisors offers complimentary consultation and guidance to seniors and families when needing to transition into assisted living, memory care, and other senior living solutions. Oasis is a national brand, operated by more than 100 franchise locations across the country. Neal Bowes, owner of the East Tennessee location, which also serves Bristol and Abingdon, Virginia, says the company offers several such webinars each year.
“I work alongside social workers and case managers as they strive to provide the highest level of service to our seniors,” Bowes says, noting he is pleased to be able to support the region’s healthcare professionals with continuing education.
Some studies indicate seniors living with cognitive impairment can be at a 65% greater risk for experiencing a fall and are three times more likely to suffer a hip fracture, according to Tracey Kendall Wilson, Regional Director of Alzheimer’s Tennessee.
“Some contributing factors we may not necessarily think about are incontinence, depression, and boredom,” says Wilson. “We are consistently working with family care partners and others to implement modifications that minimize the risk factors. We are happy Oasis Senior Advisors are working on this as well.”
The webinar is presented by Jenerations Health Education. The instructor will be Joanna Frankel, MSW, a Licensed Certified Social Worker – Clinical, with over 20 years of experience in long-term care. The event is free, but space is limited, and registration is required by visiting https://jenerations.ce21.com/item/oasisseptember.
