I grew up next to the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia. I spent the summer months of my childhood visiting with my grandparents in rural West Virginia. I would accompany my grandad on daily visits to the local nursing home or ride along as he drove neighbors to medical appointments. My grandfather taught me the importance of lending a hand, being a friend, and giving back to my community.
After my grandad passed away from Alzheimer's in 2010, I started thinking about how my grandparents struggled to find services and good medical care where they lived. His passing inspired me to find more meaningful work where I could make a difference. I started volunteering at a local hospice and became a paid caregiver to older adults at a group home. I spent the next 13 years working in aging services and serving older adults in my community.
In 2015, I completed my Master’s In Aging Service Management at the University of Southern California. My goal is to advocate for the clients I serve and to empower them to make informed choices regarding the aging process. I live with my husband, cat, and dog in beautiful Hanover County, Virginia.
