Oops - Time For A Do-Over
So, here we are at the end of January already. How are you doing with the resolutions you made just four short weeks ago? I for one not only failed to lose the last five pounds, but I actually gained a pound! I guess I failed to plan, so I planned to fail! No time like the present to get back on the horse and refocus on your goals. (No, you can’t wait until next January and try again). Okay, so what do we need to do to make sure our results at the end of February are better than our results have been thus far this year? Here are a few tips:
1). Review and recommit to your goals. Really take a hard look at what you’re trying to accomplish. Write down your goals and track your progress on a daily and weekly basis. Don’t get too far ahead of yourself. Let’s just worry about February for now. The best way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time.
2). Be sure your goals are SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound). Once this is done, write down the tasks that must be done to achieve the goal. Be very specific including timeline dates. Put your goals in a place where you will see them regularly - the bathroom mirror, the refrigerator (especially if your goals include weight loss), on the dashboard of your car, or prominently at your desk. Keeping your goals top-of-mind will go a long way towards achieving them.
3). Be accountable to someone other than yourself. Share your goals with your spouse, friends, or co-workers. Find people who have had similar challenges to the ones you’re facing and ask them for advice. Surround yourself with positive and supportive people who know your goals and are rooting for you to achieve them.
